The perfect family outing!

September 1st, 2008

Since Chris had a nice long weekend for the holiday, we decided that we should do something fun as a family.  I woke up feeling better today than I have in a month–not completely pain free but definitely better!  When I was recovering from my first surgery at my parents’ house, they took me and my sister to eat at Pop’s in Arcadia.  I loved it in spite of being in quite a bit of pain and every minute I was there, I wished my precious girls and Chris could share in the novelty and fun of this place.

So we went today!  First I probably need to explain Pop’s to you…it’s on historic Route 66 and is a gas station.  Yes, a gas station.  Why would anyone want to eat at a gas station, you may ask…well, they have over 500 different types of Sodas, a retro soda bar, fabulous food for cheap prices, a great waitstaff, and a fun atmosphere.  If you go, prepare to wait about 30 minute to an hour.  We waited 45 but fortunately the weather was perfect so we took pictures and walked around “exploring” the place. We ate on the patio out back.  There were fans, shade umbrellas, and water misters that kept us cool while we ate.  The best part about Pop’s is that you get to pick your own soda bottle.  There’s a case in the back of the store where you can go to browse, or you can look on the menu, where they have sodas listed by color, flavor, and brand!  Chris took Gracie to get hers, and no surprise she wanted a Bubblegum flavored soda.  He got Vanilla Rootbeer.  I decided on a Coconut cream soda and Trinity chose Banana milk!  Our food was great and it was a real memory maker.  We all had fun and ate too much!

I forgot how wonderful it feels to live like a “normal” person–even though I’m still wearing my surgical bra and garment under my clothes.  I think I’m going to like normal!  And now…some pictures!  Gosh you sure can’t tell my kids love the camera huh?
